Women in Nephrology, India

Women have attained great feats and contributed to the realms of nephrology across the globe. Their work towards clinical and research-based enrichment of the subject has been exemplary. An offshoot of the International Society of nephrology, Women In Nephrology was founded in 1983 and has successfully helped women to nurture their careers in this field.

The organization would prove to be a support-system with its diverse goals in the arena of nephrology which will include:

Pursuing research work and Propagating advancements

Research is the backbone of metamorphosing any idea from bench to bedside and WIN-India would strive to pursue the same.

Promoting academics and mentor-mentee activities

Budding nephrologists would be duly mentored through regular academic activities, programs and interesting quizzes.

Promulgating teaching vignettes

The eminent members of the forum would impart with pearls of nephrology in continuum with the process of learning.

Public outreach activities

In sync with the concept of corporate social responsibility, it is imperative to promote mainstreaming of public engagement in the field of nephrology and women nephrologists will create public awareness programmes.

Dr. Vidya Acharya

Dr. Vidya Acharya, affectionately known all over the country as the “Mother of Nephrology”, The first lady nephrologist of India. She started her illustrious medical career, completing her undergraduate and postgraduate studies from the prestigious Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital. She dedicated herself completely to these institutions, where she joined as faculty and contributed immensely to the development of the Departments of Medicine and Nephrology.
